1031 Repairs
There are normally one or two correct ways to make a repair on a compressor, but there is an infinite number of ways to screw it up.
The material for this class (videos and pictures) will come from examples of good and bad practices that were used in making field repairs to compressor packages. The use of bad practices is much easier to demonstrate because normally there is abundant visual evidence of the consequences. The result of good practices being used is usually hard to find because everything looks the way that it is supposed to. That is the goal of this class.
A discussion of the proper part and material selection is a key component of this class. A compressor package exerts extreme forces on the parts and the piping as it compresses gas. There are lists of acceptable materials that were used when these units were built and these materials must be used to make repairs unless an upgrade exists for the materials or parts.
The proper tool for the job is just as important as the proper material and parts. A well calibrated torque wrench should be the most used tool in a technician’s tool box. Every critical fastener on a package has a torque value, and it should be applied.
Discussions of what tools should be available for the mechanics and how to use them will take place. There will be hands on sessions using the training unit.
